The Iowa Association of Area Agencies on Aging (i4a) is proud to announce that it has joined the Dementia Friends U.S.A. public awareness initiative. The program, Dementia Friends Iowa, will train Dementia Friends Champions across Iowa in collaboration with Iowa’s Area Agencies on Aging, the Gerontology Society of Iowa, the Aging & Disability Resource Center network, a consortium of aging studies and gerontology-related programs in Iowa’s universities and colleges, and community-based organizations interested in promoting dementia-friendly programs, services, and communities. Dementia Friends Champions will be trained to conduct local dementia friends public awareness programs. Public awareness programs will initially be available virtually due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Dementia Friends USA is administered in the U.S. by Dementia Friendly America and is part of the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom initiative to raise public awareness about dementia.
